Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur organized International Conference on Financial Markets and Corporate Finance (ICFMCF, 2017) on July 7-8, 2017.
Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Commerce & Industry, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.
Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM), IIT Kharagpur organized the INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FINANCIAL MARKETS AND CORPORATE FINANCE (ICFMCF 2017) on July 7-8, 2017. The aim of the conference is to provide a forum to showcase cutting edge research in the areas of financial markets and corporate finance.
The conference brings together researchers from academia, industry and regulatory organizations to deliberate on theoretical work, empirical findings and policy implications related to financial market microstructure and challenges in corporate finance. The conference provides an excellent avenue to get quality feedback and an opportunity for networking among researchers, academicians and industry executives working in finance and allied areas.
“Indian financial market is witnessing significant changes in recent times. It is experiencing paradigm shift in terms of global M&A activity, big ticket IPOs, renewed interest of FIIs, private equity deals, hedge funds, international listing of Indian securities. Indian financial market is no more immune to global events and getting increasingly integrated with global market.” said Prof. Prabina Rajib, Conference Convener and Professor at Vinod Gupta School of Management at IIT Kharagpur.
The inaugural address was made by Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India. She welcomed the move of such a conference in the context of bringing the specialized area of financial market and corporate finance into public domain which will develop futuristic thinking among the investors. She congratulated IIT Kharagpur on its endeavor towards becoming India’s first STEM university with the onset of its medical education in a few more years and also integration of Financial education through VGSOM.
Smt. Sitharaman emphasized on the need for transforming Indian economy for an emerging to a formal, upfront economy with traceability of financial transactions and due taxes. GST, Demonetization, Digital Payments are making this possible. She focused on the need for awareness building in financial matters and financial literacy and referred to government programs such as Money Smart School Program, Financial Education Training Program. She mentioned various initiatives such as capital racing for tech start-ups in biotech, nanotech and IPR, electronic auction and electronic books for private placement of high value bonds etc.
Prof. S K Bhattacharya, Deputy Director of IIT Kharagpur presided over the Conference. He highlighted on the six thematic areas of advanced research which have been undertaken by IIT Kharagpur under MHRD’s Viswajeet initiative to compete at global scale in cutting-edge research.
Among the keynote speakers are Prof. Jin-Chuan DUAN, National University of Singapore and Vidhu Shekhar, India Head, CFA Institute. Sessions have been organized on SMEs in India, Hedging Commodities in Corporate Perspectives by MCX, Case presentations from Economic Times chaired by Dr. Nagendra Chowdary, Head, ET Cases and several more.
International Conference on Financial Markets and Corporate Finance is an initiative taken by leading management schools within IIT system, such as Vinod Gupta School of Management (IIT Kharagpur), Department of Management Studies (IIT Madras), Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (IIT Bombay), Department of Industrial and Management Engineering (IIT Kanpur), Department of Management Studies (IIT Delhi) and Department of Management Studies (IIT Roorkee).
