IIT Kharagpur's Rekhi Centre of Excellence for the Science of Happiness signed MoU with Rajya Anandam Sansthan (Department of Happiness) under the Government of Madhya Pradesh to collaborate on the development a Happiness index for measuring the well-being of the people of Madhya Pradesh. The MoU was signed in the presence of Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Prof. P P Chakrabarti, Director, IIT Kharagpur at Bhopal.
This collaborative work would be administered as per the requirement of Government of Madhya Pradesh with IITKGP developing the Index and analyzing data collected by the Goverenment of Madhya Pradesh in order to assess the level of happiness and develop recommendations that can be used to enhance happiness. IIT Kharagpur will also develop an online screening and assessment system in order to screen and identify suitable volunteers from the huge of database of more than 30,000 people who have offered to volunteer. Later, IIT Kharagpur will also develop online courses on Happiness with certification through evaluation system available at CET, IITKGP. This work will be done by the team of experts at the Rekhi Centre in consultation with other national and international experts.
Discussions were held between IIT Kharagpur representatives and the CM along with top Government officials from MP and Anandam volunteers. “Very good experience with the state and its leadership team, especially the volunteers who do this work without any payment in addition to their normal duties. Looking forward to some very interesting collaboration” read a statement by Prof. Chakrabarti on his facebook page.
Satinder Rekhi, the patron of Rekhi Centre of Happiness at IIT Kharagpur, who was present on the occasion, agreed to provide funding for a District Happiness Centre for Jabalpur, where he studied 50 years ago. The decision received warm welcome from the CM, Shri Chouhan.
MP Government also signed an MoU with ISB on a MOOCs programme on Happiness.
