Event Details:

In today’s ecologically, aware times, the issue of corrosion effects major industry sectors. The industry sector, including motor vehicles, aircraft, rain, marine, commercial, off-road and defense vehicles, as well as infrastructure, energy, naval, aviation, food industries all experience significant issues with corrosion. This can have a widespread impact on the industry which affects the economy.

A specific focus on the Infrastructure sector showcases that corrosion management is one of the key areas which needs immediate attention. The deterioration of steel infrastructure caused by corrosion may be influenced by a changing climate and/or pollution level which may lead to its serviceability and structural failure. This not only is a major cause of concern for the life of the structure but it also involves risking precious human lives. The structural failure needs to be arrested through proper maintenance regime. Corrosion has a huge economic and environmental impact on all facets of national infrastructure; from highways, bridges, buildings. Apart from the corrosion of infrastructure materials, surface corrosion also leads to loss of valuable assets.

The multidisciplinary aspect of corrosion problems combined with the distributed responsibilities associated with such problems only increase the complexity of the subject. Corrosion control is achieved by recognizing and understanding corrosion mechanisms, by using corrosion-resistant materials and designs, and by using protective systems, devices, and treatments. Management of corrosion is, therefore, a major driver to safety, environmental and economic issues within the industry. Corrosion management technology is the integrated efforts to achieve the technique and method for handling and solving of corrosion problems based on the corrosion management and risk management analysis with adopting the optimal and efficient technology. An effective corrosion management program is necessary for successful plant operations. This process starts as early as the conceptual design phase, and it continues throughout the design life of the facility.

Against this background, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and IIT Kharagpur Alumni Association are organizing Conference on Corrosion Management on 28th May 2019 at The Lalit Great Eastern, Kolkata. Senior representative(s) from Industry, reputed manufacturers, Public Sector Undertakings (PSU’s) and Government and other relevant stakeholders would deliberate and focus on awareness on corrosion management & its control, sectoral perspectives, Industry Technology Intervention and selected best practices which would be key in identifying the solutions to the prevailing problems pertaining to corrosion.

The key objectives of the event would be:

  • Awareness for the negatives effects of corrosion
  • Knowledge to prevent corrosion in practical applications
  • Proactive measures for preventing premature failure of structural items
  • Applicable method for reducing corrosion effect on metal

The deliberations as part of the event would necessarily focus on:

  • Corrosion Management: Insight, Potential Threats & Mitigation Strategies
  • Corrosion Management: Sectoral Perspectives
  • Industry Technology Intervention in Corrosion Mitigation.
  • Selected Best Practices in Corrosion Mitigation- Case Study

We are writing to you to consider attending the aforesaid event as in Invitee.

You or your colleagues are welcome to share recommendations on the broader theme of this conference. We would collate the inputs from various stakeholders and present them to the authority concerned for further action.
